A true roller-coaster of emotions evoking laughter and compassionate tears at the same time. I devoured each page, staying up 'til the wee hours of morning with this one-of-a-kind find. Where has this author been all my life?? Read this book and be prepared to discover stories which have never previously existed in the world of literature! They're delicious, funny, sensual, painful and some are outright unbelievable! Overall, it's an outstanding contribution to our real understanding of the deeper processes that shape all our lives, because it reveals the human side of prostitution. Like others, I thought of prostitutes as dirty, misguided and low-life's. Those who patronized them were just as despicable in my mind. But of course, I knew nothing of the real facts until I read Madam. I had never thought about the disabled, disfigured, paraplegics or the mentally retarded who may never experience the human touch, a hug or being held in a woman's arms,except when they visit bothels and the women/prostitutes who are with them emotionally as well as physically. Most women I know, myself included, would not have the level of compassion it would take to hold a severely retarded man in her arms, while he drooled and jerked all over her! The book paints both sides of the story, the good, the bad and the ugly. It's all so very fascinating and a real learning experience. I felt like I was watching the entire brothel operation through the Madam's eyes and heart. Thank you, thank you for an unforgettable experience and life-lesson!

Carol Bonser sure knows her area and gives great directions and commentary. The maps are easy-to-understand and thorough. I've spent many fun hours on the trails she recommends. This is a good book to use in conjunction with her other titles, all about the same general region. I understand she grew up there and so has an in-depth, insider's view to where the most fun is to be had. A definite thumbs-up.

Fabulous pictures and fascinating information about the people who made skiing in the Sierra possible. You don't have to be a skier to enjoy this book!

TO THE AUTHOR, THESE ACCOUNTS ARE SO MOVING BUT QUITE INCREDIBLE. ARE THERE ANY INDEPENDENT VERIFICATIONS OF THESE MUSTANG SUICIDE STORIES?

Forbes has written a well-documented and lucid account of the local tribes in California and Nevada dealing with a succession of non-native invaders: the Spanish, the Mexican-Indian, and the Anglo-Americans. Unfortunately, these invaders used increasingly hostile forms of removal, forced labor camps, and extermination to achieve their desires for land and resouces. Can the US criticize any nation for ethnic cleansing or genocide with such a history? Certainly not without acknowledging our own past: this is the fresh perspective one gets from reading Forbes' book. Forbes also makes clear there has been a long process of renewal in local tribes, which continues with vigor and hopefulness today.

Perhaps Collin's best, it has the distinction of being (like Raymond Chandler's The Long Goodbye) an excellent novel which also happens to be a detective novel.

A fascinating journey made by a humble photographer. The images evoke a stark beauty of the land and an appreciation for a way of life all but lost.

Nevada Captive is a highly entertaining book. The sparks fly between Caley and Jake all the way through the book. He is the Marshall come to clean up the town and she is the spitfire who steals his heart. She is fiesty, headstrong and a bit too foul mouthed. She is very defiant of him and he finally spanks her. However, she continues to spit fire at him at every turn. A fast paced read and one I highly recommend.

Rusty Sheffield needs money to save his ranch. He is a lawyer by trade but loves ranching. Through the misfortune of his older brothers, Tom and Landan being killed he inherits the ranch and all of its debts.

Lucy's mother had married Rusty's father for all of six months, fifteen years ago. Lucy had dreams of returning to the ranch where she had spent six of the happiest months of her life. She envisioned sharing the tranquility of the ranch with others, a dude ranch no less.

Rusty was willing to work all hours to get the money to pay Lucy back and cancel their deal. No dudes, no way!

It was wonderful to watch the growth, emotionally and mentally of Lucy, especially after she was coirced into taking care of Tom's daughter, little Cricket.

How these two people, who couldn't seem to communicate, finally managed to fall in love and understand each other made for a really great story.

Highly Recommended -- with no reservations - truly an enjoyable story.

Prior to my discovery of this book in 1994, I like most Law Officers were relegated to carrying cumbersome two volume hard back editions for reference. The Nevada Criminal and Traffic Law Manual has changed that. This book is extremely easy to carry in a brief case on duty. If you have access to a laptop, the CD rom version makes this a quick way to access all of the important statutes. The soft cover book has a somewhat less than handy index, but is workable once you become accustomed to it. The CD version has an excellent search engine with almost a "soundex" type function. If you are a Law Officer and this is available for your state, get it!
